Saturday while in NYC, I visited the Central Park Zoo. I'm not generally a huge fan of zoos, but this one was fairly small and nicely maintained. 
A sleeping polar bear, 
a young harp seal rescued in Maine, 
a snow monkey and baby, and 
a rain forest bird . . . . The seal was nursed back to health, but has a vision problem, so it wasn't a candidate to be released. It was interesting to watch the keeper with the seal a bit after this photo was taken. The keeper was working with the seal on some basic behaviors and to acclimate it to some basic contact with the keeper which will help the keepers care for the seal.
After the zoo, I headed to the Boathouse restaurant in the Park and had a lovely afternoon enjoying a nice pinot grigio and some fruit and cheese.

I love that little zoo. The baby snow monkey is too cute. Sounds like a perfect afternoon.
Actually, that harp seal is a cutie, too.
I love going to the zoo! All of the animals look so cute!
I'm not a big fan of zoos either, but when I went to one this summer, one of the guys there told me most zoos are moving toward conservation and away from, "Hey, look at this cool animal in a cage." I'll enjoy them a lot more if that is the case.
Monkeys are always cool to look at. There was no poo throwing, was there?
Those monkeys are adorable. I would even suffer through the stinky smells of the zoo to catch that moment of cuteness.
So cute! Checking out animals followed by cheese and wine sounds like a great way to spend the day.
I've always been curious about the Central Park Zoo. It certainly is famous for only being a couple of acres large.
I liked your story about the seal, too. That must have been interesting to see.
I once had a flock of those pink flamigos land in my front yard, I had to pay a bride to a local service club to get 'em removed...

pru - it really was a great day (started at MOMA)
princess - definitely stop in if you are in NYC - adult admission is less than a movie (8 bucks)
sage - things are going better out here - winds have died down and the temp has cooled - hopefully this will help the firefighters
flix - the seal was definitely looking at us!
