As the President and Congress fight over the funding for the war in Iraq, I hope and pray that they keep in mind the wise words of Ike:
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. The world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."Dwight D. Eisenhower

Nice quote.
and he was a Republican? a good quote Diane.
Beautifully said.
There's another great Ike quote in which he warns the nation (and the world) about the military-industrial-complex. I believe it was in a speech during his farewell months.
Goes to show, sage, just how much the Republican party has drifted to the right over the last 40 years. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens is considered the "liberal voice" on the court, and yet he was a Republican appointed by Gerald Ford. Nixon would be considered a moderate by today's standards.
I like Ike.
